Commitment. Teamwork. Tenacity. In my humble opinion, these are the qualities that define a first-class Friends group. Does the Twin Lights Historical Society measure up?  I certainly think so…and hope you agree.

Three years ago, in the weeks following Hurricane Sandy, I was told in no uncertain terms that our museum renovation was impossible. The state had no funds for historic sites. This fall, the Twin Lights Museum opened to rave reviews. It is, without a doubt, the most dramatic exhibit space in Monmouth County…and the finest small museum in New Jersey.

We accomplished the impossible with the help of Twin Lights Historical Society members and volunteers—who selflessly stepped up time and again—and, of course, with the legion of visitors who drop a dollar or two in the box at the Museum Store. What put us over the top, however, was the generous support of a committed group of donors.

We don’t ask for much and we don’t ask often, but when we did our members came through and enabled us to fulfill our vision. Those additional dollars (above and beyond the basic membership) proved to be the tipping point of the museum project.

I am writing today to urge you to come visit the lighthouse.  I promise you will be astounded by our new museum, and by the Seeing Stars Exhibit, an unprecedented collection of historic flags and patriotic items that tell our nation’s story in a most unique and compelling way. I am also asking for your continued support and generosity. The new museum will be drawing thousands more visitors each month than it did before—which not only wins us new fans and friends, but also pumps tens of thousands of dollars into our local economies that are still recovering from Sandy.

Most of all, I am asking you to encourage friends and family members to Get Connected with the Twin Lights as members and volunteers. Tell them the amazing, remarkable feat that we have accomplished with your member dollars.

But don’t take my word for it. Come up and see for yourself.  Really…it’s that good.

Very truly yours,

Mary Jo Kenny

The Twin Lights site has a small staff of state employees. To "keep the lights on," the Friends of Twin Lights volunteers help whenever and wherever we can. The Twin Lights have been supported by this organization for more than a half-century.

Volunteers are an integral part of daily operations of the Twin Lights. Often they are the first to meet and greet visitors. They educate, inform and organize-working in the Museum, Gift Shop and elsewhere on-site. Their contributions enhance the experience for more than 80,000 visitors a year and help the Twin Lights Museum achieve its goals.
